Featuring designers from Israel

This month Switch Shoes and Clothing is focusing on the small and independent Israeli designers that Rina Menashe, co-founder of Switch, works with personally.  Rina blends her practical business sense, bringing unique fashion to the Portland market, with her personal philosophy of being both helpful and compassionate.   “I understand that the nature of business is to bring money in,” Rina says, “but if you are doing business with a caring and compassionate philosophy behind it then the money will come.  It’s good Karma.”

When Rina opened the store she saw an opportunity to do something that could make a difference by supporting companies that hire Palestinian workers.  “I wanted to find a way to do my part, I wanted to find peace in my heart.”

Switch Shoes and Clothing is always looking for new designers. Our recent additions are Red Apple, Una Una, and The Shoe Story. Two fabulous benefits our customer’s receive from our supportive business relationships with these companies is quality and exclusiveness.  The shoes and boots are hand-made from leather.  Many of the styles and colorways we import are found exclusively at our store, not available anywhere else in the United States.  Rina has a lot of creative say in the shoe production by Figura and Mango. She often selects the leather to bring more colors and styles. So even though you’ll soon be able to find Figura on the American market, certain styles and colors will only be offered at Switch Shoes and Clothing.

In the following video Rina talks about her passion, her philosophy and creative aspects of these relationships.

Just had to tell you I was wearing some of my old favorite Switch boots this week now that the cooler weather is back and THREE different people stopped me within a day and asked where they were from. I passed along your info of course and hope you have some new Switch shoe addicts soon!
